Dear colleague,

The World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM), an international organization of over 85 societies in over 75 countries of the world, conducted a survey earlier this year to collect information on patient and family centered care practices being implemented in ICUs.  A total of 345 responses were received from 40 countries.

The results of the study identified varying practices with respect to patient and family engagement. Respondents reported providing:

  • Written materials on the ICU to family members
  • Holding family care conferences to review goals of care
  • Open visitation
  • Family presence during resuscitation
  • The use of patient and family ICU diaries, music or pet therapy
  • Use of patient and family advisory groups.

While the study provides information on global critical care practices supporting and patient and family care in the ICU, only 3 responses were received from Spain and South American countries.

Therefore, WFSICCM has partnered with Dr. Gabriel Heras and the HU-CI network to extend the study with a Spanish language version of the survey.

Your participation is voluntary but would be immensely appreciated in order to provide additional information on patient and family centered care practices being implemented in ICU worldwide.

Please, fill the survey in Spanish by clicking here.

Thank you in advance!
