I would like to share again good news is followed in IC-HU Project. The Hospital Universitario de Torrejón and Dra. Mari Cruz Martin (author of The Science of Security of patients), one of the members of the research project has been awarded at the II Edition of Quality and Clinical Security Awards of Sanitas.

These awards recognize the involvement and efforts of practitioners in the development of initiatives aimed at ensuring a safe environment and the highest quality clinical care, always thinking of the safety of the patient.

The awards received were as follows:

* “Global award” for the best initiative in Clinical Security in SLA Market Unit, Hospital Universitario de Torrejón , for the work “Implementation of the rounds of security as a strategy to improve the safety of the patient”.

The project is led by the head of the Intensive Care Unit – Dr. Maria Cruz Martín Delgado, involving the Patient Safety Committee and the professional of the Services who made the rounds (ICU, Surgery, Emergency, Radiology, Hemodynamics, Pediatrics, Newborn, Hospitalization, Pharmacy, Pathology, External Consultations) and the Management Team.

* “Award by business unit” for the best work based on the lines of action defined by the Sub-Committee of clinical safety in Clinical Governance & Quality:

-Strategy for the consolidation of the surgically check-list , as one of the key elements of the security policy for patients at the Hospital Universitario de Torrejón .

Directed by Dr. Enrique Esteban Agustí, surgeon of the service of General Surgery and Nieves García Durán, nurse supervisor of the surgical block. All the safety Committee and all the professionals of the service of anesthesia, surgical services, and nursing of surgical block participated.

Once again, team work and global initiatives with the patient in the centre of the care have borne fruit. And it is important to see that it´s possible.
