Death Cafe is an organized discussion group about death without a closed indent or specific objectives. The purpose is promote social awareness of death from several points of view for rating life and breaking the taboo of all death concerns.

Death Cafe model was developed by Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky Reid, based on the ideas of  Bernard Crettaz. Since 2011 almost 4000 sessions have been held in more than 40 countries.

The aim of Death Cafe is only to speak freely about death while a coffee and a cake are shared. This is not about helping in grief nor a place of support to experience personal. It is not intended to raise funds nor making conclusions from the meeting. It is confidential and respectful.

Taking into account the previous experiences and the outcome of the one held in Vitoria-Gasteiz on December 1st 2016 by Vivir con Voz Propia  in collaboration with  Mamia Café, members of Proyecto HU-CI believe it is an appropriate initiative to encourage the debate about death among citizens. And we are not alone.

For this, we are going to organize simultaneous Death Café  in several cities the same day: Thursday March 23rd 2017.

From the social networks of the project and the local organizers we will advertise the place and the corresponding schedule. The cafes will be held in Alcalá de Henares, Alicante, Barcelona, Burgos, Collado Villalba, Elche, Gijón, Granada, Lima (Peru), Madrid, Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Palencia, Ponferrada, Posadas (Argentina), Reno (Nevada, United States), Santiago de Chile, Talavera De La Reina, Teruel, Vitoria and Zarautz.

All the posters will be exhibited in the III Conference of ICU humanisation, next May in Granada.

So, we are counting on you. Connect with the local organizers and #letstalkaboutdeath.

Happy Tuesday,

Iñaki Saralegui and Gabi Heras on behalf Proyecto HU-CI.
