Step by step, a reference hospital is growing and showing what is done is the result of reflection, communication and involvement by designers, hospital staff, patients and families. We speak of the Hospital Materno-Infantil Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona.

Diagnostic unit was transformed into a spaceship. This “restyling” was a success last year and the change speaks for itself. Stress has been reduced and now the children undergo the tests much more relaxed.

Thanks to the donations of individuals and enterprises has been remodeled the Day-Care Hospital zone which is already operative. This new space has 850 m2 and where before there were 12 beds in a space shared now there are 23 individual boxes. It also has 2 isolation rooms, 2 rooms for dialysis and 2 small rooms for surgical interventions.

Without a doubt great improvements for children with a very careful design. It has created “the hiding place of animals”, a concept that is born of the need to humanize and this pediatric space.

“The hiding place of animals” integrates animals in the architecture of the Hospital. The design is based on full-scale silhouettes, some of them in relief, playing with shapes and colors. A bright, open, dynamic and colorful space adapted to children and families, which aims to enhance their stay in the Center without interfering in the work of professionals.

But this is not the end, there is a new project underway. PortAventura Foundation will donate 3 million euros for the construction of a new Pediatric ICU focused on three key objectives:

– Improving the stay of hospitalized children and their families.

– Expanding the technological endowment of the unit at the highest level.

– Facilitating the workspace of the professionals who develop their work in the hospital.

The new ICU will grow from 381 m2 existing to 1.440 m2, assuming an improvement for patients and families, with single rooms to have more privacy.

Guests can enjoy a space of relaxation and toilet area.

In addition, the project includes installation of a technological equipment of last generation, that will ensure the best care to patients.

Thanks to these improvements, patients and families will benefit from a warm inviting space, intimate and relaxed, as well as professionals will be the best equipment to develop their work.

We are looking forward to seeing it!
